I looked into whether UMANG belongs to one department or covers a wider part of government. Its official pages describe a platform spanning central, state and local bodies.

I kept seeing people search for what services are available on the UMANG app. That made me wonder about a more basic point: is UMANG tied to one part of the government, or is it meant to cover services across different levels?

I checked the official UMANG and National e-Governance Division pages rather than trying to infer the answer from individual service names.

The key finding

UMANG stands for Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance. Its About Us page describes it as a single platform through which Indian citizens can access pan-India e-government services ranging from central to local government bodies.

The National e-Governance Division describes the scope in more detail. It says UMANG aggregates major citizen-centric services from central and state governments as well as local, autonomous and statutory bodies.

This is the distinction I found most useful: UMANG is not presented as the service of one ministry or one state. It is an access platform that can bring participating government services from several administrative levels together.

What I found when I looked further

UMANG is identified as a Digital India initiative. The official About Us page says the platform is owned, designed and developed by the National e-Governance Division under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
