Where should you start when you need school study material in India?

A broad search for “school” is rarely the real question. The useful question is narrower: do you need the textbook itself, a digital companion to a lesson, or practice material that matches a particular board and class?

That distinction matters because the official NCERT and DIKSHA routes do different jobs.

Do you need the textbook itself?

For the book, begin with the NCERT textbook portal. Its selection path is built around Class, Subject, Book title and Language. The portal then provides options for a complete-book download or individual chapters.

This is useful as a matching check, not merely as a download option. Selecting the class and subject before choosing a book reduces the chance of treating a familiar-looking title as the right material for the lesson in front of you.

Does the learning material point to a QR code?

When a course QR code is available, DIKSHA’s course FAQ gives two routes: scan it in the mobile app, or choose “Enter QR code” on the portal. The portal route asks for the six-digit code followed by “Submit”.

The practical insight is that a QR route preserves the connection between the learning material and its digital course. It is a more meaningful starting point than opening an unrelated explanation simply because it uses the same topic name. This is a decision rule drawn from the workflow, not a claim that every textbook has a QR code.

What should you do when there is no QR code?

Use DIKSHA’s Library guidance to narrow the search by Board/Syllabus, Class, Subject and Medium. The guide also separates content into textbooks, teaching material, learning material and practice/test material.

A sensible reading of those fields is: establish the curriculum context first, then the class and subject, then the language and the kind of help required. The order is a practical way to avoid a common mismatch: a resource can be relevant to a topic while still being unsuitable for the learner’s board, class or medium.

So which route fits the question?

If the need is the book, use the NCERT textbook path. If a learning resource supplies a DIKSHA QR code, follow that connection. If the starting point is a subject or lesson rather than a specific book, use DIKSHA’s filters before choosing the content type.

The answer is therefore not one platform for every school question. It is a fit test. The more information already known—class, board, subject and medium—the less useful a broad search becomes, and the more useful the official matching fields become.
