The official spelling is Duleep Trophy, not “Dilip Trophy.” BCCI uses that name throughout its schedules, squad announcements, match pages and reports. Searching the common phonetic spelling “Dilip Trophy” usually means the same Indian first-class competition, but using Duleep will produce cleaner official results.

The tournament is named after Kumar Shri Duleepsinhji. That proper name is why the spelling does not follow the more familiar given name Dilip.

What kind of competition is it?

The Duleep Trophy is Indian first-class cricket organised around zonal teams. For the 2026–27 edition, BCCI published squads for six zones:

• North Zone
• Central Zone
• South Zone
• East Zone
• West Zone
• North East Zone

These labels do not name six states or six permanent city franchises. The squad announcement lists players with their domestic associations in brackets, showing that each zone draws from multiple associations.
