Tilak Varma made 99, but Mukesh Kumar’s 3/62 led a collective bowling effort that dismissed South Zone for 336. The resulting 372-run deficit meant East Zone would take the title if the match ended without an outright winner.

3. East Zone removed the remaining time

East Zone did not need to chase a target or force a declaration gamble. It reached 388/7 in its second innings, with Kounain Quraishi making his maiden Duleep Trophy century and Kishan adding 80. By then South Zone had no realistic route to an outright win before time expired. The teams shook hands, the match was recorded as drawn, and the first-innings lead decided the trophy.
