IND vs SL: India’s 124-run Asian Games semi-final win, explained
India beat Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the 2026 Asian Games semi-final. The scoreline was shaped by two major batting contributions and an early bowling collapse.
India beat Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the men’s Asian Games semi-final on 1 October 2026. India made 169/7, Sri Lanka were dismissed for 45, and India moved into the men’s final against Pakistan on 3 October. The BCCI’s official gallery records the match at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. (BCCI match gallery)
The scoreline was built around two Indian innings
Ishan Kishan scored an unbeaten 80 from 46 balls and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made 38 from 21. Together, they scored 118 of India’s 169 runs—about 69.8% of the total. The remaining score was 51, so this was not a broadly even scoring card: two substantial contributions supplied most of India’s platform. (ICC scorecard)
The winning margin is the difference between the completed totals: 169 minus 45 equals 124. Sri Lanka’s target was 170, but its innings ended at 45, which makes the result a decisive failure of the chase rather than a close finish.
India’s bowling created the separation early
The ICC’s match account says Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets in the opening over, Axar Patel took two in the fourth, and Washington Sundar and Abhishek Sharma completed the dismissal. Read alongside Sri Lanka’s 45 all out, that sequence points to a collapse that began immediately and never reached a recovery phase. India did not have to defend a narrow total at the end; the decisive work was done by taking wickets before Sri Lanka could build a chase. (ICC tournament account)
What the result changes in the tournament
This result settled India’s side of the semi-final bracket, not the Asian Games title. The official tournament update confirmed India’s final against Pakistan on 3 October, while Sri Lanka’s next fixture was the bronze-medal match against Bangladesh. At the 1 October India-time cut-off, those were upcoming fixtures, so the final result should not be inferred from this IND vs SL scoreline. (OCA tournament update)
