Is Microsoft Teams Free Enough for Meetings in India?

The limit that changes the decision is meeting length

Those details belong together: unlimited describes the number of group meetings, not the length of each one. A team planning repeated sessions should therefore check its usual session length against 60 minutes first. Counting how many sessions it wants to hold is not the first filter.

The participant ceiling is a separate check. A group can fit within the time limit and still exceed the 100-person limit, so both conditions matter before choosing the free plan.

Do not carry the one-to-one allowance into group meetings

The same India page lists free one-to-one meetings for up to 30 hours, alongside the separate group-meeting limit. That distinction matters: the 30-hour allowance should not be read as a 30-hour group-meeting allowance.

The ₹115 figure should also be read as an annual-billing rate per user/month, before applicable GST—not as a final tax-inclusive total.

The practical answer

Teams Free is a reasonable fit on the published limits when group meetings stay within 60 minutes and 100 participants, even if the meetings are recurring. Teams Essentials becomes relevant when duration or headcount crosses one of those boundaries.

So the useful question is not simply whether Teams is free. It is whether the group’s meeting format fits the free plan’s two published ceilings.
