Looking up tractors: why I would check engine HP and PTO HP separately
A tractor’s engine HP and listed PTO HP are not interchangeable. Comparing two Mahindra pages also showed me why an official specification can still need clarification.
Why I looked this up
While looking up ट्रैक्टर, I became curious about a narrower question: when a tractor page mentions horsepower, which figure am I actually comparing?
I checked two Mahindra India product pages. This is a reading of their published specifications, not a driving test or an ownership review. My main takeaway was to keep engine power and PTO power in separate columns—and not quietly resolve contradictory specifications myself.
What the two pages actually say
The engine figures below come from each page’s horsepower FAQ. The PTO figures come from its introductory product description.

These are the manufacturer’s published figures, not measurements I have independently tested. Even so, they answer my initial question: on these pages, engine HP and PTO HP are different ratings. I would not use one in place of the other when reading an equipment requirement.
A hypothetical implement comparison
Suppose I am considering an implement whose documentation specifies a minimum of 35 PTO HP. That threshold is an assumption for this example—not a requirement taken from a real implement or either linked page.
Here is my decision order, applying only the verified tractor figures:
- Identify which rating the assumed requirement asks for: PTO HP, not engine HP.
- Compare the matching figures: the 275’s listed 32.9 PTO HP falls below the assumed threshold, even though its engine is listed at 37 HP.
- Keep the conclusion narrow: the 575’s listed 42 PTO HP exceeds that assumed threshold. That establishes only a numerical power comparison, not complete implement compatibility.
The useful distinction is the label attached to the number. Using the 275’s engine figure would reverse the outcome of this particular screening check. Neither tractor page establishes that either model suits the hypothetical implement, so I would leave that question open rather than turn a power comparison into a buying recommendation.
What I checked more closely
The 575 product page contains a complication: its horsepower FAQ gives 35 kW (46.9 HP), but its separate cylinder-count FAQ describes a 27.6 kW (37 HP), three-cylinder engine. Its specification table lists four cylinders.
I cannot settle that disagreement from the page itself. The table above therefore attributes the engine rating to the specific FAQ where it appears; it does not present that figure as an independently resolved specification.
For my own shortlist, I would treat that inconsistency as a question to put to Mahindra before relying on the engine details. The practical result of this research is not that one tractor wins. It is that I now have two distinct checks: compare the power category the equipment actually requests, and flag conflicting model details instead of choosing whichever figure looks convenient.
