The President’s Secretariat release dated 23 September 2025 records the completed event: President Droupadi Murmu conferred the award on Mohanlal at the ceremony in New Delhi.

My takeaway is to keep both dates in the sentence: Mohanlal received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023 on 23 September 2025. Calling it simply his “2025 award” would lose the distinction the official record makes.
