Mohanlal’s Dadasaheb Phalke Award: why I found two different years
The official records mention both 2023 and 2025. I looked up what each year actually refers to.
Why I looked up Mohanlal
I wanted to find something concrete behind the name Mohanlal, rather than turn interest in an actor into speculation about why people were searching for him. My reading led me to his Dadasaheb Phalke Award—and a date distinction worth keeping straight.
The official records use both 2023 and 2025. Those years refer to different things, not competing accounts of when the same event happened.
What I found
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting’s announcement dated 20 September 2025 named Mohanlal as the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2023, recognising his contribution to Indian cinema. It said the presentation would take place at the 71st National Film Awards on 23 September 2025.
That announcement establishes his selection. For confirmation that the presentation actually happened, I checked the subsequent record rather than treating a scheduled event as a completed one.
The President’s Secretariat’s release dated 23 September 2025 confirms that President Droupadi Murmu conferred the award on Mohanlal at the 71st National Film Awards in New Delhi.
My short version: Mohanlal received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023 on 23 September 2025.

What I checked out of further curiosity
I also wanted to know whether the later release changed the award year. It did not: the presentation record still calls it the award for 2023. That makes the distinction explicit in the completed-event record, not just in the advance announcement.
Neither of these releases establishes why Mohanlal might be attracting attention now. I would not use a documented award presentation from September 2025 as proof of a current surge in interest.
What I came away with is narrower, but useful: when I write about this honour, I need both the award year and the presentation date. Leaving either one unexplained creates confusion that the original records themselves resolve.
