Which India Asian Games Cricket Squad List Should You Trust?

The useful answer is a dated one

For “India Asian Games cricket”, the official record does not support one timeless list. The BCCI published a men’s update on 16 September, a women’s squad announcement on 30 June, and a later women’s injury update on 14 August. Read together, these give a clear men’s update but leave one important detail open for the women’s squad.

Men’s cricket: use the 16 September update

The BCCI’s 16 September update lists these 14 players:

The same update says that Varun Chakaravarthy was ruled out with a side strain and that Vipraj Nigam replaced him. It also records Nitish Kumar Reddy’s withdrawal from the Asian Games to play in India’s ODI series against the West Indies. BCCI’s update is therefore the useful reference point for the men’s list.

This sequence matters. A 10 September BCCI notice had already recorded Yash Thakur replacing Harshit Rana in the Asian Games squad. That replacement notice explains why an earlier list containing Harshit Rana should not be carried forward unchanged.

Women’s cricket: do not transfer an Asia Cup replacement into the Asian Games squad

BCCI’s 30 June announcement named Harmanpreet Kaur as captain, Smriti Mandhana as vice-captain, and included Jemimah Rodrigues. The original announcement is not the last word on Jemimah’s availability.

On 14 August, BCCI ruled Jemimah out of both the Asia Cup and the Asian Games. The same update named Pratika Rawal as Jemimah’s replacement for the Asia Cup, but did not specify a separate replacement for the Asian Games. The medical update supports a precise conclusion: Jemimah is out, but these documents do not establish who replaces her in the Asian Games squad.

That distinction prevents a common mistake. A replacement named for one tournament cannot automatically be moved into another tournament’s squad simply because the player being replaced is the same.

What the official record lets us conclude

The phrase “India Asian Games squad” needs both a team label and a date. For the men, the 16 September update provides a later named list after two replacement decisions and one withdrawal. For the women, the official material confirms a withdrawal but leaves the Asian Games replacement unspecified in the cited update.

So the responsible answer is narrower than a prediction about results: use the dated men’s list, mark Jemimah Rodrigues as unavailable for the Asian Games, and do not fill the women’s replacement gap by inference. That is the point at which the official evidence ends.
